Cream Legbars

In summary...the Crest, Comb, Barring, and Cream color hackles are the things that are easiest to see in a photo and the hallmarks of the breed. This pullet looks good in all of those categories.
Phew! I was looking at the birds on the British CL Facebook page and it seems like any bird darker than salmon on the breast or with any gold in the hackles is "wrong." Of course I am probably missing the subtleties of shades, etc.

She is a sweet bird. I am not intending to be breeding for the show ring (if there is one here) or for profit. What I want to do is do right by the breed in my little neck of the woods -- so that anyone expecting a Cream Legbar from me gets a Cream Legbar, not a mix or a horribly wrong-colored bird.

Thanks again!

I just picked up a Lakenvelder from a family who just hatched some cream leg bar chicks. I'm pretty sure they are looking to sell- but I can't speak for them. If anyone in OK is looking- I know where you might be able to pick some up. probably not all that cheap cheap cheap tho. (ha, chicken joke)

I am looking to buy around a dozen hatching eggs. Anyone who has some available, and will ship to Ohio, please pm me with your price INCLUDING shipping please? Thanks! Heather

My home town is in Oklahoma. I travle through there on occassions and have come a cross several people with Cream Legbars in OK. I am sure there are others. What city are you in EggsAllDay?

Hi,

Not sure about this one - has a mark on it's head, but has the female 'eyeliner' and a darker back then the other definite male, so i'm confused as to it's gender. What do you think?

I agree with GaryDean -- I think in Punnett's writing he said that the distinct back strip is the give-away for female chick. My girls all have Cleopatra eyeliner.

I'd greatly appreciate your comments on this 6-week-old chick: color, crest, type, whatever one judges a chick on. What would you think if you saw her in your flock? No holds barred, and many thanks. :)
p.s. Is a chick of this age's coloring likely to change significantly? For instance, can one tell salmon from chestnut at this age? Thanks again.

In the picture with two pullets, she's on the right.

In the group picture she's the one on the left.
NIce birds. Interesting the slight color tone difference between the two females. The crests look good to me. I prefer a medium crest as opposed to a large one. I also like a lighter crest. Your male looks to have the start of one so that's nice also. I cannot tell anything really about the hackle color but the darker seems to have a tinge of gold but it's hard to tell for sure and at they are still young and the feathers are still just coming in. There seems to be a range in the tone of gold from what I have seen. The leg color looks good. I'm not experienced enough to make any good, bad decisions at this age unless it's obvious - like no crest. I think in another month or so they may be more likely to be better judged.
