Serious lice infestation?? Lime sulpher dip recommended by vet.

Keep in mind that whatever you treat your chickens with, the inside of their house must be treated as well...including nests and roosts. They must be re-treated in 10 days to kill lice/mites that have hatched since the first treatment. This is true for chickens as well. Sometimes a third or fourth treatment is necessary if the infestation is out of control. Without second treatment and treating the inside of the house...you are wasting time and money while the chickens can possibly become anemic, then die in given time.

We've been having a similar problem with our arred Rocks & Wyandottes.
We were a bit slow in cleaning up their butts after they got a bit pasted up, and it seems that they've been rubbing their bottoms to relieve it.
Now, a couple of our birds have bald butts, and the skin is quite red.
Started using some Neosporin & aloe; we'll see how that works.
Anyone with similar situation? Would be glad to hear about your remedies/results.

I just put wood ash in my yard where they dirt bathe and it kills mites and lice. Have never had a problem since I started using it. They had bad cases of lice and I dumped the ash all over them and never again did I have a problem

I had a bad case of chicken lice with all of mine so after trying DE, 7 dust, everything you could think of and no real relief for my chickens I went and got Front Line for puppies and kittens, 2 boxes. You put 3 drops on the back of the neck for large hens and 2 drops on the back of the neck for smaller hens. It worked great and after 4 days I checked everyone and not a lice to be found! It is suppose to keep them free for about a month to 6 weeks.
Not the smartest thing to do if your eating their eggs.. Just saying
