What age can chicks go outside?

At what age can I bring my girls out to play and dig in the grass, obviously supervised. They range in age from 4 weeks to 1 week.
 
It depends on your weather. A broody hen takes her chicks out as soon as she brings them off the nest, but she takes a portable heater with her. You'd be surprised how long very young chicks can go without heat, but they do eventually need it unless your daytime weather is like mine.

Your 4 week olds are practically feathered out and should not need any heat in a few days, even if your weather is pretty cold. My lows at night are in the lower 70's and I have turned the heat off in the three week old's brooder, which is in the coop. If the lows were in the low to mid 60's I'd probably leave the heat on a few more days.
 
My girls are about 4 weeks old and I took them out into the grass (with a box around them open at the top and bottom) for about 20 minutes while I cleaned and transitioned their box from the laundry room to shed. They were nervous at first but eventually started picking at the grass, and they all managed fine. I didn't want them to be out for too long since it's been quite cool here for a while but by the time they starting getting chilly it was time for them to go back into their box.
