It's Day 26 and I Can See Him, Now Do I Help?!

I just hatched a batch of Sebright eggs, and of the twelve that made it to lockdown, eight hatched on day 20-21, one on day 22, and one is still half-hatched on day 26. He's been zipped since day 21, and has been making noise off and on the whole time. His shell does appear to be cracked most of the way around. It looks like the slightest effort would break it, and I don't understand why he hasn't come out.

I originally said I wasn't going to help any of the chicks, but at this point, I'm sorely tempted. Surely he must be developed by now. And hungry! But I don't want to help if it means potentially breeding weakness into them, either.

Any thoughts on why this little guy still hasn't come out? He's still cheeping pretty strongly, and wiggling occasionally.

as long as he is cheeping loudly and is progressing, i would leave him alone.

if he has stalled for a couple hours and is making no progress, i would help him/her.

i've helped out with less progression than that. you could probably carefully pull the broken end off and he'd almost fall out with a little shake. but, if he's getting along fine, i'd let him finish.
 
How long has the egg looked like that? If we're talking since day 21, I'd be helping..
 
To me he/she has nearly hatched, its zipped most of the way, and one big push would have him/her out.. But with it hatching for 5 days I would help, as it probably has not got energy for that one last push.. due to lack of food and water.. I would help.. As for breeding weakness into chicks.. I think this chick has proved it is not weak as it sure would have died by now if it was.. My thoughts are with you and the little un

holy moses! i didn't see he had been zipped for 4-5 days!

yes, definitely help. i would have helped after zipping and no progression after 5 hours
 
I helped him out, but he didn't make it more than a day. When I peeled the shell off, the membrane was hard and stuck, and it looked like there was yolk stuck to him, like a string of it sticking his head to his stomach, so he was stuck hunched over in the shell. I cleaned him off, but he never really started eating...

When I said breeding weakness into them, I didn't necessarily mean physical weakness, I meant any negative trait that would weaken the line. Like excessively thick membranes or shells, or weird yolks. I should have been more specific.

Thank you for the advise, guys. Glad to know I have BYC support when I need it.
