Help on getting HOA changed to allow backyard chickens

Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread, but I have a friend going through a similar situation. I was wondering if anyone could help her out. Her HOA has asked her to submit the proposed changes for their CC&R that she would like to allow backyard chickens. She would like to be able to site examples of other neighborhoods who have successfully allowed domestic fowl. If anyone has an HOA with a CC&R allowing domestic fowl in any capacity would you please share the wording of the document and how long your neighborhood has had it in place? Thanks SO MUCH!
Forty-one years. pm me your email address and I will send a copy of our CC&Rs. You might also look at the code in cities that allow chickens (for instance, what is city code where she is? That might be sufficient).

Hi Sonoran Silkies!!! I'm getting ready to go through the same issue in our new community in Harker Heights, TX. Was wondering if you still have the CC&R information readily available and if you would be kind enough to send it my way as well? I'd be ever so grateful, as my husband and I have been talking about "adopting pet hens" for a little while now! :) Thanks ever so much!!!

Can I please have the information you submitted!? I have LOTS of neighbor support and we want to go about changing the rules (we are all on 1+ acre lots), we personally are on 4. THANK YOU THANK YOU

Hi.I'm in Stillwater,MN. in Sept.2012 the city allowed chickens. I've had 4 here since Feb.warm in the greenhouse. None of my neighbors ever noticed them til now. The roomy coop+run went up this week. the police came said I had 24 hrs to get them off the premises. BYC advised knowing the chicken laws first but all I knew was they were legal and thought I was fine(should have listened closer) I applied for the permit.18 neighbors got letters. 6 were furious! 7 objected right away. These are neighbors I'v'e had for 30 years and I've always been extremely nice to them. I'm used to getting what I ask for in prayer. I prayed He would soften their hearts about it.
My husband and children objected to a move to a farm 18 years ago. that farm was demolished by a tornado. I'm glad we stayed here and did not buy it. I went to all my neighbors to tell them they've always been courteous and I would keep only two and them very clean. They are extreme chicken haters."I moved to the city to get away from animals!" "I made him promise we'd NEVER have pets before we married!" "I grew up on a chicken farm. The smell, the flies drove me nuts!""they'll attract predators!"one resorted to personal attack that really hurt my feelings. My 93 year old 86 84 and 82 year old neighbors all said" your chickens wont bother me. I'm just glad to be alive." and fondly remembered chickens when they were younger.
5 times I read "Love one another" in the bible this week. I am withdrawing my application and not fighting them in city hall.I told them I love them more than my chickens. I am sad. One chicken always leaned against my leg affectionately. I am hoping some one will pray a cheer me up prayer and count my blessings.I'm normally a very joyful person so it wont take long. There is a time to gently give in.

Would you send me a copy of your myth/fact pack please? It would be useful in my presentation to my HOA, Thanks!

I too am interested in getting your pro and cons list. I had to get rid of my chickens in January or the HOA would put a lien on the house. We are surrounded by neighbors that adored our chickens (5 hens) but the "Good Ole' Boys club" on the HOA board was bound and determined to sabotage any vote or movement I tried. They said that I was not allowed to call a vote of the people to change the CC&R's an that they would do anything they could to make sure this didn't happen. We are in unincorporated County and the nearest cities allow chickens. I know they cannot dictate whether or not I try to change the covenant and would like to go about doing so with all the right tools. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Especially wording of the amendment to the covenants that specifically say no poultry. Our board just kept refusing my wording saying their lawyers would not like the wording.

I live in Liberty Hill, Texas in a neighborhood with a strict HOA. Our neighborhood is fairly new so the HOA is run by an actual company...not by volunteers who live here.

The worst type of HOA.

I'm guessing the board is compose of investors like a some of the areas around here.

It's 2016 and it looks like the death of property rights is drawing near.

Could you send me your CC&R's - I'm having an issue with my new HOA on my chickens as well! I can't figure out how to PM you! Thanks in advance!
