Haha! Yes, she looked a little moody in pic #4 and #5. But she doesn't mind any of it. She just stands there and lets me put her harness on her, adjust it and just soaks up all the attention! She is a good girl.

I tried adjusting the harness today. After adjusting, I can fit my hand under the front girth strap and I can fit my hand under the rear girth strap. The straps are snug against my hands. Is this how it is suppose to fit? Or do I need to do more adjusting?

my dog is not quite as big as yours hes a boxer and i just used one of my old small horse halters anded some padding to the front and it worked perfect!!

Good for you for building your own cart! We built our parade cart and get constant comments about how "elaborate" it is, and how true to the style of an old horse drawn cart. It was designed by a Mechanical Engineer who took great care to ensure that the cart would not put any more weight than absolutely necessary onto the dog, and was built in late 1982.

In fact, it's two plywood boxes stacked one on the other, with various curved cutouts to make it look authentic. The only significant expense was having a professional do pinstriping over the stain and varnish. If anyone is interested I am happy to give you, by email, full plans with photographs and directions for making it. Mine is pulled by a 38kg (umm, 85 pound?) Rottweiler ***** who is very sound, but quite lightly boned for a Rotty. She effortlessly pulls two children at a time on the level and on small up grades, all day.

If anyone is interested, just let me know and I can email you the plans as a pdf, no charge. The sizing is metric, unfortunately, but easily converted. The cart is a 'convertible' - the seat lifts off to turn it into a goods cart. It's now over thirty years old and has been pulled by a lot of Rottweilers ranging from 32kg to 64kg - 70lb to 140+ lb.

My cart plans were halted, but one day I would like to try it. I was looking into goat carts myself that can be pulled by multiple dogs.

Gorgeous cart Madgicsh!

Mmm! OK, but only for light loads.

I know everyone is mad about Siwash, but I'm NOT.

My dogs, and all Rottweilers in Australia that I've seen, use a custom built leather harness with a steel plate to protect the back (covered both sides with leather and held in place with silver conchos). But they carry people, mostly kids but adults too. Experiment a bit, but if your dog seems unhappy, stop at once. You can see our harnesses on http://www.dogcartersoz.com/
along with photos and videos. My website is shamefully out of date but may give you some ideas.

Cheers
