What kind to get??? WHY is it so hard to choose???

[[[.......Ignore his advice, Oregon. He doesn't even own a goose......]]]]

No, I know goosedragon and he is very knowledgeable. His advice should be considered carefully.

What he has said is true. People who buy geese with no thought and no preparation are probably not going to do well with them.

I still advocate purchasing the best geese you can afford, but I also advocate studying enough to know what a goose is like and how to care for it. Proper housing and equipment should all be in place before the goose arrives ... or any animal for that matter.

People who don't care about purebreds, don't care what the bird looks like, don't intend to breed or show, can probably be happy with barnyard mongrels, but that is not what the OP was asking about.

If someone wants a very specific look or a predictable temperament, then it should be purebreds with enough quality that they are going to look and act like what you dream you will get.

Sebastopols are even more dependent upon quality. That specific look is difficult to breed for and ordinary cheap geese are NOT going to look like the gorgeous photos of outstanding quality Sebastopols. People who buy cheap hatchery quality geese and think they are going to end up with large round balls of dazzling feather display are doomed to being disappointed.
