Hi everyone I've started raising a variety of chicken breeds from last year and was just wondering can I make some profit out of my chickens selling eggs, chicks and fully grown birds?

The problem with trying to make any profit is that the world is full of people who will sell eggs for less than it costs to raise them and then give away any bird they no longer want.

It's hard to make a profit with eggs when the guy down the street is selling his for $1 a dozen. If you try to get your costs back, the customer just goes down the street and buys eggs for $1.

The public has been well trained to think that chickens and ducks are free because there are free chickens and free ducks on Craigslist every day of the year.

I guess so but in south africa chickens are quite expensive especially the more rare breeds like the brahma,I mean I don't want to make a fortune but it would be nice to make some extra money!

South Africa? Wow! That's a whole other ball park, friend. There are many wonderful online books you can download (maybe from Amazon.com?) that deal with poultry for business and profit. Use them as a guide. I don't know if your goal is being a breeder/seller of a rare variety or selling fresh eggs from your garden gate. Here in the United States, I sell free range eggs to my coworkers (around 15 dozen a week) and also have black wyandottes. It was a matter of finding a breed niche. Blacks are a good base for the rest of the colored varieties for this breed.

Good luck friend!
