Parallel roosts at the same level should be 18" apart for large fowl so the birds on one can't pick on birds on the other. Sadly, chickens don't always "play nice" and those higher in the pecking order will mess with those that are lower just to "remind" them of their status. And the roost should not be any closer than 12" from the wall so they don't have to twist sideways to keep from hitting it while roosting. They will happily lean against a side wall.
