We had 3 eggs hatch over the weekend and 2 of the 3 chicks are not walking. One leg seems to have movement but is unable to draw it up underneath them. It's odd, because one was walking and then stopped. They chirp constantly because when momma moves they have a hard time getting to her. It seems like a tendon deformation in the knee joint. Im at a loss of what to do. I make sure they eat & drink, but am I prolonging the inevitable?!
A little background info, this is the 3rd time this hen has been broody since this summer (she turned 1 in July) all previous chicks have had no problems. I was shocked she was broody so late in the season and kept an eye on her but really had no idea how long she'd been setting. So last week I checked the eggs, candled them and 2 were not as warm as the other one. I brought the hen & eggs in the house and to my surprise, Saturday one hatched, one started pipping, and one you could hear random taps. By Sunday all were hatched. When #2 wasn't walking and had the "bum "leg, I got concerned and even put him on his back to make sure he had movement (he moves it fine) and thought maybe he just needed time. Nothing's changed.
Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
(PS - we live in Ohio, it's gotten down to 29 at night)
