big_smile I could tell you were in the valley by the dirt in your yard, LOL! only in Phoenix do we have those barren clay dirt back yards, LOL! How do your coops work in the Summer? I am in Mesa and don't have quail just yet, I am in the resreach phase right now.

I've done quail in Buckeye for almost a year.  No losses at all, not even one due anything.  I put them under shade.  The second one goes on the side of the house (between two houses) and gets shade most of the time.  The bigger of the two gets shade 50% of the time.  It works.  My bigger cage is 8' long and 3'deep with doors additionally on the ends as well.

I would never eat a cow's tongue.  Gross!  Give me an egg.

Now that I have quail, looking to add chickens, guineas, turkeys, & ducks. Wife hates to see me on BYC.
