Think I'm gonna leave BYC for awhile, nothing you guys have done. Shelly I'll check after Christmas to get that delivery confirmation number from ya. Just kinda bummed on how some people are thinking about my Ameraucana chicken. yeah I asked for their opinions and what not but still though some can be pretty harsh and its like this is depressing sad  I know a lot had good intentions and I'm glad that they did. Anyway Ill still keep in touch everyone. Thanks for being kind to me and being my friends. Have a good January swap smilesmile  love ya guys..

I'm sorry that happened to you.  I felt that way a couple times myself.  Once I posted photos of some birds and I felt people were saying they weren't good enough so I gave them away, but now I've found out I should've kept them!!!  They were gorgeous!  I just don't post photos for people's opinions any more.  Also I just don't really follow the threads that have people like that on them.  I think it's worse with Ameraucana breeders especially.  Some can sound very harsh.  hugs

thanks everyone hugs

Hi.  I have never joined into this swap...but have been watching for the past 2 months.  Just had a bad experience with purchased hatching eggs.  Not breeders fault.  The eggs got stuck one extra day in the mail due to bad road conditions.  Evidently they started to develop on the 5 day trip and that's as far as they made it.  Just worried about cold and road conditions this time of year.  Would like to join the March swap group.  My Birthday is March 16 !  big_smile

These swaps are alot of fun and sometimes I have a great hatch..other times not so great.. I figure if you can hatch out refrigerated eggs.. shipping in colder weather can't be much worse.. The friendships I have made on here warm the heart..

I could try to set you up with somebody close to you. We've all had the experience of eggs not doing well when shipped. Other times we have great hatches. A lot depends on the freshness of eggs and how well they were packed. Wouldn't it be fun to try just 1 swap?  Postage isn't bad for 6-8 eggs. Just call me the enabler. gig

The next few months I am thinking will be:
Feb- Normal swap
March- set for Easter hatch (chickens set March 17)
April- Mother's Day Hatch
After that normal swaps.

Are there any objections?

I would love to join in this month. But it just snowed and got real cold here. I am afraid that someone that got my eggs would have trouble because of the cold.  I don't want noone getting frozen eggs so I am sitting this one out.  hmm

I wouldn't worry about the cold at all.  Eggs apparently are very, very hardy at least when it comes to cold.  I had a hen make a nest outside the fence.  She laid 3 eggs in it before I found where she was getting out and plugged the hole.  A few days later I found her nest and took the eggs.  So at least one of the eggs was out there a full 5 days, another for 4 days and the last one for 3 days and at night temps were in the low 20s, during the day 35-40 and one of those nights it sleeted all night.  Had I not read the threads about people hatching Trader Joe's refrigerated eggs from the grocery store I would have just pitched them, but I wanted to see it for myself so I popped my 'refrigerated' eggs into the incubator with a lot of other eggs.  All 3 hatched on 12/23!
