Alfalfa poisonous for chickens

If it was poisonous, none of my chickens would be alive! We have horses, goats, and sheep so we have alfalfa hay on the property. The chickens love scratching around the stacks eating up the fallen hay leaves. In the winter, I even toss in a flake now and then so they can enjoy some scratching fun when there is snow on the ground.

Like pawtraitart said, if it were true, then all my chickens would be dead. I keep a thick layer of alfalfa hay in the portion of their run that's under the coop, and it's their favorite hangout. They LOVE laying in it, scratching around in it, and eating the leafy bits. When I throw a fresh flake of hay under there, they're just as happy as if I'd thrown a favorite treat out in the run.

This isn't right, is it? I'm sure I've read about lots of people feeding their chickens alfalfa.

It's just a website. Shocking, but not everything on the internet is true.

I have been soaking alfalfa in warm water. cutting it up in small pieces so it doesn't clog up their crop. They seem to love it. I mix it with cracked corn, grit and meal worms...a little love :)
