Red breasted geese

I have seen pictures of some on here and thought I would start a thread for the people who breed them or who want to breed them.I also would like to get some so here are my questions:
How many people own them?
How can I reach them?
How big of an enclosure do they need?
Is their diet is mainly grass?
What is the price range?

How many people own them?
Red-breasted are relatively common now as several people in the US have been successful at breeding them as of late, but there are far more people keeping them than actually breed them.
How can I reach them?
Join the American wild waterfowl clubs like the American Pheasant and Waterfowl Society. They publish a breeders directory each year that's quite helpful for locating birds. The International Wild Waterfowl Association would also be a good start.
How big of an enclosure do they need?
They're quite small, not much larger than a mallard, so they don't need a ton of space. I would suggest at least a 20'x20' enclosure at minimum, per pair. They do need to be kept in an covered aviary as they are prone to predation by hawks and owls due to their small size. The larger the aviary the better, that way they don't burn out the grass.
Is their diet is mainly grass?
Yes. All geese can be considered cows with feathers and should ideally be treated that way. A pasture and water are the basics. A good quality duck pellet and greens (lettuce, cabbage, etc) are a good supplement, especially during the winter months.
What is the price range?
$1,000.00-$1,400.00 USD is the current range. The price is coming down a bit. As I mentioned there are a few people out there who are doing well with them now.

I think the good Dr is once again misinformed. There are not many people at all that keep them or breed them in our country (USA). I think she said she was from Canada or Antartica.Thats probably why shes not quite sure. Any way edited to say Softbills for sale has them for sale sometimes.

Redbreasted are kept and bred by a number of breeders across the US, they are one of the harder species of geese to breed on a consistent basis. They require the same care as most wild geese a good duck pellet, water and grass, easy to keep but can be disturbed very easy. They are best kept by themselves or with other Redbreasted geese.
