Anybody heard from Tractor Supply, about Chick Days ?

I got some super cute bantie babies from TSC in my town. I wanna say that the employees of that store were so sweet, as opposed to the Orschelin's employees who were SO rude, and gave me an attitude, as if a girl with a bunch of piercings and tattoos can't be a farmer. Uggg. But anyway, I am trying to fight the urge to go buy more today. I know they said they were getting more on Friday....

Yesterday my daughter came home from work and said "hey mom guess what coming to Bradberry's in a couple of days"? Bradberry's is the local feed store. I said "chicks, but we don't need any". She was clearly bummed that I already knew (as if I wouldn't :) ha!), and that we weren't getting any. I told her "our girls are back to laying good and the coop is full so we've got all that we need". And with that she was fine. We are redoing our kitchen right now so brooding chicks wouldn't happen. My ladies are back in full swing. I have 9, 4 of them are easter eggers and I'm getting 4 to 6 eggs a day. This week has been 4 one day, 5 the next two days, and 6 yesterday. Yesterdays eggs which is the most we've gotten in a day since they started laying last summer had 3 green eggs. So this season we are going to stick with what we have. I go to the feed store pretty regularly and I'm going to need veggie seeds (this year I'm starting all my plants by seed, so I won't miss out on seeing the chicks. But I have to go on Fridays because they get 100 chicks each week for 8 weeks and they usually sell out each shipment by the following Monday.

Okay, so DH decided he was going to go to TSC. I told him I was going to stay home. Chick temptation averted ... right ??

WRONG! DH insisted that I go and if I saw any chicks I wanted to get them!

Needless to say, what DH wanted they didn't have.

BUT they did have 7 "Red Pullet" chicks ... and a dozen or so "Buff Orpington" chicks ...
DH wanted New Hampshire Reds (and that was one of the four varieties you "may" get) .. and I wanted Buff's ...
SO .. we ended up with 7 "Red Pullets" (couldn't just get 6 and leave one lonely chick, right?) and 6 "Buff Orpington" straight run chicks!

Plus all the accompanying items necessary for brooding baby chicks. Including a chick-n-pen, heat lamp, feeder & waterer, food, etc.

So .. now DH really DOES have to build my chicken coop! Been after him for months and he keeps putting it off, since we didn't have chickens! LOL

His reasoning behind letting me finally get chicks is because he knew he'd keep putting off building the coop. Now he has no excuses! LOL And it was all HIS decision!

I ended up getting 6 red pullets when I was there to raise to coop size and then resell for a small profit each. But 1 of the ameracauna(actually EE's) stood out to me, the smallest but fattest and darkest with the biggest beard and muffs at just a few days old, looked cool so I got it. It is one of the best looking chicks I have in the brooder(I have 16). I hope its a pullet!! :) Its black with white speckled on the chest and white and black wings. Comb is still light compared to some of my other chicks but not sure that means much right now since I have no others from same blood line to compare too. They are all friendly and healthy chicks I got there

I havent bought any chicks from TSC but I did buy 9 ducklings over the last few weeks lol. We did loose 1 Pekin but he was a runt to begin with so it was along shot. Now we have 8 ducklings, 1 - 3 week old Pekin, 1 - 2 week old Mallard? possibly Rouen, 1 - 2 week old black mystery duckling, 4 - 2 day old mallards and 1 - 2 day old black mystery duckling. :) I do have 25 chicks also but they came from hatcheries. lol

our tractor supple people are clueless about what they have... i was there a couple days ago and someone asked them if they had any barred rocks and the guy replied, "no, these are all straight runs". .....

They are also no help in A. what hatchery they came form, and B. what breeds they might be.... I've got a couple i got there I have no clue still what they could be... I'm hoping they get a big shipment in right before easter, and that there's some silkies in it... I will be sad when chick days are over!!! Might have to grab a bunch the last week just so I can play with them for a while then resell them :)

I'm going out of town tomorrow, so when I went in to TSC the other day I had to force myself not to get any. When I get back next week, the first thing I am doing is going to TSC and getting 8!! I can not wait!!
