I've been visiting the zoo a few months ago when I took these shots, and I wondered...This white peafowl always looked like it had some cream colour to it's feathers, so, I assumed it was maybe just dirt, or something like that. But even months later, it still looked the same.
And I saw white peachicks of around the same age that weren't coloured like it is.

Additionnally, I recall hearing that fowl calling like a male, but maybe I didn't see right and so...is it male or female ?

Here a few pics :

Forgive me if the answers are supposed to be obvious, I'm just so curious about these birds, that even a bird covered in dust (if that's the case here) makes me wonder why it looks like that.

Thanks in advance for all your answers ! ~

Interesting colour! Aussie peach?

. Spurs visible in the second photo would make me say its a male. Is the soil around the zoo reddish in colour? Looking at your last photo, the head colouring looks natural, and not dirt, especially since its throughout the bird. Maybe check up on the bird over the course of the year, and show us photos of its train. It would be interesting to see what the eye feathers look like.

yes a hen, the spur are small in dia. like a hen 2yr or older. Where is pic taken. could be a white bird. with stain feathers from the soil.

Ha ha peach hen fade to a color like that .....under the sun.

But white will stain their feathers with red soil.

Reason i ask where at if Australia. They dont. Have peach.

Heard a few peach have been export out of the USA...not sure if in your area.

My guess its a white hen with stain feathers.....from dust baths

I have a "Peach" Ornamental pheasant that has to be within 1-2 shades of the color spectrum very close to this peafowl,,and from all the stories I've very recently been told color is soley dependant of what the breeder of that birds says it is.That's my story, and I'm stick'in to it!! LOL!!

Thanks everyone for your replies !
I've been wondering too if it was new or such but you guys know better than I do for sure, so I asked... xD

Deerman, it was taken in New Caledonia, at Le Parc Zoologique et Forestier, and, here are a few shots of how the ground looks like in some areas :

Our primary lake has been drained because they are building a bridge, but it was still full of it's water in December

In that area of the zoo the soil's a bit more red-ish, though white really do not venture there often at all

Sorry the following one is blurry, but in this one the peacock was dust-bathing

I hope that helps. If the whites wandered in the area where the soil is more red, I'd have had no doubts, then again, you guys will tell me. I find it fun, in a way. xD

And yes, I will visit the zoo soon and see if the fowl looks the same, which wouldn't surprise me if it looked the same, actually. But who knows. ~
