We have a shepherd mix we trained to take care of our chickens. She does an awesome job and takes great pride in her chicken related duties! Unfortunately, she's not around them 24-7, and I don't think I want her protecting them against skunks, or trying to fight off a huge boar raccoon, even though she'd love to!. Our Dachsund gets along with them just fine, too.
