rirs and production reds?

Here at our feed store, they order from a breeder who actually owns the store himself. The birds you buy there are quality birds. Not that I've bought any myself. They don't have a huge selection. Delaware, Barred rock, Rhode Island Reds, Wyandottes, etc and none are sexed.
The owner actually participates in shows. http://cspoultry.homestead.com/ - so it's not true that all feed stores only resell hatchery chicks. It isn't ALWAYS the case, but a lot of the times it is.
I will venture to guess that they don't win many shows with the "Barred Rocks"
To me his Barred Rocks look they are production type fowl and not truly bred to the breed standard.

Yes I agree with you there Chris. I really don't like his barred rocks, but his Delwares are nice, and his ducks are very nice.

Checked some recent show results and he won with his call ducks. Most likely sells from stock that is not his show stock. They like to keep the good ones for themselves or charge a large amount :)

The real dark one in the back is RIR (we named her Zira because she looks like the 1968 version planet of ape's female doctor) and the roosters (Niles and Forest) is production, the female in between them (Rose) is production. The yellow looking ones (Ginger and Audrey) is sex link and the white (Pearl) is a cal. white.
