Sultans!

If the waddle and comb are big and she has a V, then she is a He....The V to me looks more like a devil horn.....That's what I noticed anyway on other posts. I have four sultans left out of my five, they were suppose to be four female and one male, but since one died and they are only 10 weeks old, I still can't tell if one of them is a rooster...Keeping my fingers crossed...Maggie

Hey Brighty, I have four left. Ordered five but one died. They are now 10 week old and they are my pride and joy, I love them and are easier to catch because they don't know I am over them...ha ha ha...I am hopeing that one is a male, but they are too young to tell. I believe other then the waddle and comb being brighter, the male will have a horn like red thing on his forehead...do you know if this is true...?? How old are yours and how many do you have..> ?< Maggie

Did you ever figure out which one was male?

Hi all! I'm considering getting some sultans this spring to put in to my coop. I wanted to ask if there was any truth to them allowing their runs to stay green? When they go outside, the only chickens they will be with are tiny serama in a 15x24 run and 8 x 10 coop. I have a mixed flock out there right now and I'd like to get the area greener again and spend more of the space on building things that will interest the chickens than just having space to contain them. The serama are nice and light so they do fairly minimal damage, but their eggs are also wee. Sultans seem like an awesome choice for a cuddly, slightly larger egg layer. I'd rather just get quail and keep them separate for enough tiny eggs to make up for that than see the run turn back in to a mud pit, however.

That might be a losing battle because of the two cochin bantams who are staying, but they are honestly broody more often than not at this point! It is a struggle to keep weight on them tbh.
