Ok, I have had my barnies for a while now and really never really paid much attention to one of the hens until now. I just noticed that three of the hens have a nice rich and glossy brown color as one of them looked like this. (i only have 4). What do you think......Cross......I can not remember where I got them. But I got them as chicks. I am thinking I only got four and was luckey to get one roo and three hens. I am starting to think I put an extra one in there from another pen. what do you think....

Maybe she is just missing a gene (MlMl = Melanotic) that completes the lacing? Or there a chance that she could have been the product of a Welsummer cross some where in the background? But I am leaning toward missing a couple of genes.

She has the melanotic gene ( the black hackles and head) but she is missing other genes necessary for the double lacing. I would not use her for breeding more double laced birds.
