Unincorporated Jefferson County, CO

It seems like some HOAs in Jeffco are not following the county's lead.

Trying to get a straight answer about Westridge is proving tricky - I'm going to the Taj tomorrow to talk to someone

I live in a neighborhood without an HOA in Morrison in Jefferson County, but when I called the zoning office said that I am not allowed to have anything besides a dog or cat. What? Was the person misinformed or are there exceptions to the changes? Should I call again?

Hi. I live close to you in Unincorporated Jeffco and I have chickens. Do you live close to Indian Hills or Turkey Creek? I was told I was allowed up to 6 chickens. I have an acre of land so I don't have that big of a yard. I know that whenever someone calls down there they can be told all kinds of different answers. I think that you would be fine.

I can say with 100% certainty if you live in unincorporated Jefferson County, Mo. you have a legal right to own as many poultry as you want so long as they do not cause property damage to your neighbors. If you live in a subdivision they may have rules against it, but they have no legal recourse to enforce those rules. If you live in an Incorporated city of Jefferson County such as Fenton (not Saint Louis County Fenton I do not know the law there) You may own as many as you like (unless you are in a specific zone)

Section 210.060 Limitation of Number of Dogs and Permitted Fowl.
[R.O. 2006 §240.070; Ord. No. 1031 §1, 10-19-1987; Ord. No. 3459 §§3 — 4, 8-28-2014]
Except for dog kennels as regulated by the Zoning Ordinance of the City, no owner shall own, keep or harbor more than three (3) dogs over the age of four (4) months. There is no limit on the number of permitted fowl for property being used for a single-family dwelling, as defined by Code Section 400.030, as long as such permitted fowl do not cause a nuisance, except on any property being used for a single-family dwelling in the R-3 and R-4 Districts, no more than a total of six (6) permitted fowl shall be permitted.

But to reiterate if you live in unincorporated Jefferson County, Mo. you have a legal right to own as many poultry as you want so long as they do not cause property damage to your neighbors. If anyone in County government tells you different they are dead wrong. Ask them to site regulation against it. They can't because there isn't one. Which means it falls into state regulation which is controlled by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Those laws are simple to find.
