last evening i found a lone chuckar hanging around the chicken coop. it took off running when i went over to let the chicken out to free range for a few hours. to my surprise it came back and was slowly following the chickens around. several times we tried to catch it but its very fast and none to friendly. it would run and hide but would always return to the chicken coop when it thought the coast was clear. around 8pm i locked the chickens up for the night in their coop, but left their run door open with plenty of food inside hoping to coax it in. around 10 pm i went out there again to see if it had worked, it had not, but i found with little guy hiding/sleeping near by. with a flash light and a new i caught it. right now i have the chicken run split in half and the chuckar by himself on one side and the chickens on the other (who, besides the rooster, don't seem to mind) i gave him chicken food and he seems to be eating that.

the problem is:

A. i live in Maryland, and we do not even have partridges around
B. I'm assuming he wondered off some sort of game reserve since i do not know of any farmers raising them either
C. Ive never had one, only have raised chicken, quail and guineas
D. he seems to have little to none human contact and will throw himself against the wire when anyone comes near
E. i don't want to let him loose, because even though they have no scent, he doesn't seem to be the smartest of birds (hanging out right in the open) and the dogs have taken an interest to him because he runs from the sight of them

any tips and info would be great!!
thanks,

thanks,
I’m a back yard bird feeder. Same problem. We winter in Az. And the little guy will not survive our winters unattended. He likely will not survive the hunters raising him but I don’t care to have him die in my yard. Any ideas
