Hi - went through about a zillion pages but couldn't find one just for us bluenosers. Mighta missed it but my eyes are getting tired so thought I'd start one anyway!
I'm in Prospect Bay, NS - fairly near Halifax but fortunately zoned for having hens. Yay!

Wow I cant believe you are from Centre Rawdon Lynne P, so am I - small world. We dont have any chickens yet, still in the planning stages for the coop.I love BYC its awesome for information Most useful so far has been about the predators. I am orignally from Ireland my grandmother always had chickens there and we dont have as many predators as here in Nova Scotia, the ocassional fox but no raccoons of cyotes. Our winters are not so bad either so her coop was not insulated at all.

I'm going to message you, check for a PM!

Wow, finally, someone from HERE...

I'm here across from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and having a wicked time trying to track down hatching eggs from these sites.

Does anyone know how to aquire rare breeds? Noone I've found wants to send across the border (from the states)!

I'm looking for CHANTECLER, Dark Cornish, and Silver and golden Laced Wyandottes. I've aquired some but am looking to introduce new blood to my flock.

Thanks!
Jenn

Hey you all - I just ordered my chicks! Yippee - I'm soooo excited. I wanted originally to get pullets but couldn't so I am entering the world of tiny peeps. I'm getting 12 from Circle Pond - a mix of types. omigod!
Will need to talk to you Lynn!

Hi Lynne (with an e I realized after I wrote it without!), No you are more than 8 weeks ahead of me because my eggs just went into the incubator at Circle Pond so I have another four weeks or so before they come here. But today I bought a big rubbermaid bin and a reflector lamp so I'm starting to get broody myself. And now I've got all these other things to find out that I was ignoring. I am wondering how long I should keep them in the house and what I'm going to use after the bin gets too small and so on and so forth. think I'll keep them in my office - seems the safest place - the rest of our living space is wide open and I have to train my dog not to bother them. I think that will actually be easier by starting with chicks. wish I could train him to stay away from porcupines.

Well - going to go watch a movie with my fella. Someday I'll come and visit you and your chickens!
