Chickens stopped laying

I have 7 red sex link chickens. They are about 8-9 months old. They started laying this past June. I would getting about an egg a day since June. About a week ago they chickend stopped laying. I am getting 1-2 eggs a day. I did have a rooster in with them. He died suddenly about 2 weeks ago. He didn't show any symptoms of being sick. The hens seem very healthy. No signs of being sick. Could they chickens stop laying because the rooster died? Or would they be starting to molt already? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
It's most likely due to the rooster dying. Give them a week and it should start back up. If you start seeing a bunch of feathers around, or looks like they are missing their tail feathers, then they are molting.
 
Is there a certain age they start molting or does it depend on the chicken? Thank for the help.
 
Normally, moulting is common at 18 months. You'll experience a few mini moults along the way, however. I agree, that they've lost a key flock member, but they'll settle back in. Also realize that in the northern hemisphere, we're approaching the autumnal equinox and soon, the nights will be longer than the days. This also effects their laying as chickens are photo reactive.
 
Should I start keeping a light on in the chicken house to help since it is getting darker sooner?
