I am wanting to raise rare pheasants from meyer hatchery. The minimum order is 25 and I'm only wanting 5. I know Pheasants contain quite
a bit of meat and are good for eating. I'm wondering how much money I could make by selling meat from 20 Pheasants.

By no means are any of these breeds rare, vulnarable, but not rare.If it's meat you are looking for, then why not the jumbo ringnecks?Goldens are very skinny birds and would give you half of what the ringnecks would.I think your best bet is the jumbo ringnecks.Remember though, these are young birds and may not be available right now.Are there any breeders in your area? That would be cheaper in the long run,as you would not have to pay for shipping, plus you can actually see what you are buying.

I think Tony KT was just trying to tell you that theres not a whole lot of meat to a Golden, those guys can squeeze through a 2X4 wire fence if they try hard enough. I'm not sure you could even sell them for meat, it would end up skinnier than a cornish game hen. Tony's response, I believe, was meant to be genuinely informative, your response to him was kinda rude. Just my 2 cents.

After you pay for the bird and process it you wouldn't make enough profit to make it worth your while. Anyone who would buy a Golden pheasant for meat either has more dollars than sence or is a complete knucklehead. Theres nothing to ornamental pheasants except feathers, bone and guts. Like Tony said if you want good meat birds, stick to Jumbo Ringnecks.

Well if you read their ads,the males are 4-7 lbs and the hens 3-5 lbs.I would guess that actual meat is about half their body weight.Just my guess.I have no idea how much pheasant meat sells for.
Dainironfoot,I guess you haven't read my responses to ads.It seems like I'm always triing to defend myself about something,so I am so use to negativeity that I really don't pay much attention to it,but I will answer anyones questions as best I can. They don't think I am triing to help ,but I am.Even if they don't like my answer,I will tell it like it is.

Not sure how much meat you would get from a Jumbo Ring Neck. But for a regular ringneck you get around 2-3 lbs. & where I work (at a game processing locker). We get $20 for a cleaned, smoked and packaged Ringneck Pheasant.
