Great Gadget for keeping chickens out of your garden

I just discovered that havaheart makes a motion activated sprinkler. When the chickens walk past it (presumably to scratch up your spearmint or your dwarf ruellia) it sprays them with a stream of water. It works great and I am going to order another for my other bet. I got it on ebay, that's where I found the greatest price. Enter the key words "motion activated sprinkler"
 
I have had one called the Scarecrow for a few years. They work quite well. I use to use it to keep the deer out of my blueberry patches. It scares the daylights out of the deer and once it does they give it a wide birth even after I had moved it to a new area. The device will even work down to robin size birds if they are close to it or squirrels. It not only senses motion but heat as well. In the end I fenced the entire property though and that solved the deer issues but still use it to protect some plants from the ducks and chickens.

yea, i have one too. they do work well. i did have one problem with it though, i kept forgetting to turn it off and i would walk up on it and it would scare the living daylights out of me and give me a shower before i could get away from it :)
 
I bought a couple of dog fences that are 2 feet tall and has 6 panels that are each 2 feet in width. I spread them (16 feet in all) out to block the chickens from entering my garden. I confined them to only roam on the lawn.
I like that they are portable and I move them when the chickens are in their coop. It amazes me that they don't even try to jump over.

The sprinkler idea sounds great, but I don't keep the water to my raised beds constantly on.
 
My chickens were absolutey horrified when they found out they were denied access to the garden; I put up chicken wire around the perimeter and only had a few breaches, nothing that caused major damage. Strangely, my chickens don't mind water, even when I accidently blasted a rooster with the garden hose, he just slowly moved out of the way...
