If I cross a RIR roo with a Barred Rock hen, will this give me a Rhodebar, or is there another step to creating these birds ? I've read all sorts of info and everyone has a different idea. Just am wondering if anybody on here has ever tried breeding for a Rhodebar? Thanks !!

it just wont work, your first cross will be E/eWh(E Extended black from Barred Rocks and eWh wheaten from RIR) so all of the chick will have black down, what you just created with that cross are Sex links, not autosexing... your roosters will be mostly Barred and the hens will be mostly black. if you are wanting to Recreate the Rhodebar my first advise is, dont do it, its alot of work, and Green Fire Farm(GFF) already has them..

you may want to read the entire thread here(I did it, took me hours) after you have done the entire reading you can start asking questions ok, remember I have also read the entire thread, so I´ll know you skiped some pages..

Oh - did you think I wouldn't like a challenge !? It will take me years, but you see - we have 4 boys and some have a real intrest in breeding birds and so do I. This is a good way for a parent to work with a child - on a project. So, yes I'll read till my eyes are sore and pull up my sleeves and go to work !! I was brought up the good old fashion way of enjoying work, challenges and by the end of the day we are truly tired from head to toe ! Thanks for the link, I'll start reading !!
