Alfalfa Pellets?

Has anyone tried alfalfa pellets with their flock? It's only $11.99 for a 50 lb bag at the store, and I thought it might be a nice green stuff winter supplement but I hate to buy a huge bag if they might turn their beak up at them.

Although, I'm pretty sure our goats wouldn't........
 
I don't suppose that it could hurt - in very small amounts... And I'm SURE that your goats will love it!
I bought a #50 bag of alfalfa cubes for my horse and she acted like I was trying to poison her...
So I tossed a few the the chickens.. they totally ignored the weird, square, green rocks....
So I gave a couple to my dogs.. they took them politely and then spit them out on the porch for me to trip over.

I've heard that alfalfa is really good for the compost pile...

Most small neighborhood type feed stores will be happy to open a bag and sell you 5# or so.
I don't know if you can get TSC or Southern States or whoever to do that though.
 
We don't have either of those here... Our local "chain" is Big R. Otherwise, everything is mom and pop or co-op. I think I'll just get a bag and try, soaking them might be a great idea, especially with warm water in the am. I have a goat due in March so if the chickies don't like the pellets, she'd do well with some extra goodies.
 
I got a 50 lb bag for winter, since they have 2 feet of snow over their grass. It smelled so good, but they wont eat it unless i soak it with dog food. I also grind it and mix with wet snacks like yogurt. Ill be starting my new chicks on it, mixed with their feed. I only use it in winter when they cant get grass. And my dogs looove it.
