made a mistake on processing will it still be okay?

Yeah I hear ya...I have my faves too! Good thing I am in charge of what comes and goes! LOL! There is nothing wrong with keeping a few freeloaders. Take care of the ones that you can part with and then get more. Unfortunately I have too many of those "freeloaders" here! Oh well....TerriO

"Hubby wants to purchase some meat chickens but I am hesitant I tend to get attached"

I am a huge softie also but I just have to say there is absolutely nothing to love about a meat chicken. We had Cornish cross meat chickens and they just do not have the personality and lovability that a laying hen does.

I am attached to my layers but I am always ready for processing day for the meaties.

I am in total agreement here. I'm always on my husband to get those suckers processed! Roosters are also easier to stomach in my opinion. They can get rather bothersome!

After all my reading I still made mistake. After all the chickens were butchered they were bled out, scalded, plucked , gutted and then put into an ice bath, rinsed and put into a new tub of ice water where they will sit over night in our garage. so they sat out on a table till all were finished being gutted before they were put in theice bath. They sat out Total about 3 or 4 hours before getting into the ice bath. It hasnt gotten above 40 degrees today so the question is will this meat be ok or have we risked to much bacteria? What other problems?

Instead of putting them in the fridge for a couple of days I was going to leave them in a tote on ice will this work?
holderh - if I were you I'd eat those suckers! You know - you are doing the right thing by slowly building your resistance to harmful bacteria just by raising and eating your own birds processed on your own place. Dare I say it? Yes I will. Your processing "mistakes" most likely still produce a cleaner bird than what comes out of a meat factory. Just saying...

To help not get too attached, many give the fuzzy butts approriate names like McNugget, Dumplins, Drumstick. A friend had a beefer that he named Steaks.
