We bought her and her sister Spunky at Tractor Supply this summer. (Unfortunately Spunky was taken by a hawk) We didn’t know what breed they were when we got them. At first we thought they were a mix breed of Pekin and Khaki. We are new to owning ducks, and hadn’t done much research. Then after research we were certain they were Rouens. Now that she is about 16 weeks, we aren’t so sure. She is soooo tiny! Our Welsh Harlequin ducklings (at 8 weeks) are larger than her. And she flys all the time and can get very high in the sky. Can anyone tell me what they think she is? I just want know!
She looks like a domesticated mallard. They tend to be darker than the wild strains.
Finally a duck that looks like mine from a hatchery. I could not figure out what my male and female were. Here is one of my blue fawn females as well. I just took more pictures this weekend and while the sun is making her look a little off color in this picture, she has really nice blue fawn color. She is in with another blue fawn hen and our best gray male in hopes of hatching quite a few of these next Spring.
I have an intersex rouen and it used to quack but now makes a wasp like a male. I put it with my only female because the males were picking on it and it's like a match made in heaven. They both seem happy, so far, but this was just yesterday.that made me laugh. "What kind of noise..."
