Will a pellet/BB gun kill a rat?

A blowgun will also kill a rat if your into hunting... Would just take a well placed shot.. Up the difficulty, up the fun i always say

Sure, a BB gun will absolutely kill a rat. And modern ones are so accurate you can easily make a headshot if your blind is less than 10 yards from the animal. When I hunt rats I use an Umarex Steel Force BB gun, set to 6-shot full-auto burst, with a red dot sight and in-line night vision monocular. Of course, I hunt them at night. And I bait the area to attract them. I dress in a ghillie suit and basically snipe the rats all night long from across the park, sometimes logging up to 18 kills a night! Although they are vermin, you would be surprised how soft their pelts are after processing, and you can actually find some cool instructions on the internet to craft clothing from them once you accumulate enough. Alternatively, there are amazing taxidermists who are creating incredible pieces from rats (I hope to learn soon!!). I hope this post shed a little light on rat hunting, and I welcome any new enthusiasts who read this to join our noble and honorable sport! Cheers!

I know this is an old thread, but I came upon it while asking the same question as the OP. I went ahead and used my .177 pellet/bb rifle on the rats with no issue.

In short, a .177 pump (10 pump max) pellet/bb rifle will take out a rat if you can hit it in the head or vitals. I was using pellets with a soft plastic tip (from Walmart) and there was no issue. Just make sure you can hit the target area before you shoot, wounding but not killing the animal should be avoided.

yes the bbs will i just killed a 6 inch rat with my 22. bb gun do 10 pumps but some cut some apples as bait than wait i put chicken food on the apple just to be safe but it is dead as a doorknob also i recomend you say something punny like from an arnold schwarzenegger movie like "hope you don't have plans because your GUN to be late"

I use a .22 9 shot revolver with Aguila .22 super colibri rounds. They are basically a .22 bullet with no powder. It propels the bullet out with just the blast of the prime so it sounds no louder than a cap gun but has plenty of power to kill a rat. I have tried to use these rounds in a semi auto pistol but the primer going off isn’t powerful enough to blow back and reload the next round. That’s why I use a revolver. I suppose it may work with a tube fed lever action rifle though.
