April 15th Peafowl egg -Peachick swap discussion

Kuntrygirl, as screwed up as spring has been I'd suggest when someone has something to trade they post it on Mondays that way that person will have an entire week to decide what offer-offers they would be willing to swap for from others . All items swapped for would then need to be mailed out the next Monday-Tuesday as we discussed earlier when talking about this .I still have two pens that have not began to lay eggs at all yet. Some of my colors like purples have been laying for over a month now. So if I was to offer eggs to swap ,it would be a week after I collected the first one to see if it's fertile so I would still be two weeks away from swapping eggs (But I'm not going to swap eggs) so if your eggs are fertile and you will have the total number you offer in your swap available to be mailed on the following Monday-Tuesday,,start posting. You will need to go back to the Chickenstocks forum, locate the thread and post it there.

And you are right, the Spring is messed up pretty bad. Only 6 eggs this way. Well 4 after 2 of them were found cracked open. If that's all I get this year, then I'm ok with it. :/

Sending live chicks is going to be expensive, who pays for that? Your talking about $100 plus to ship overnite. I can only ship using poultry shipping boxes and they are not cheap. Are you sure you want to send live chicks? They cannot be mailed til fall now that the heat has sprung up so fast. Just a thought let me know what your doing, I thought it was an egg swap like everyone has going on except it is for peafowl eggs.

Yoda,$100??? Where did that figure come from? Maybe if birds are 1 year old in a box that measures 18"x30" and the total weight is 30 pounds or so. KathyinMo a member here sent me 15-1 day old New Hampshire Red chicks two months ago in a box that is maybe 12"x12"x6" especially for day olds-small chicks,ect and shipping about 425 miles to me was $31.00. With your extra $69 maybe could ship an entire newly hatched flock?
Once again whomever is offering to swap whatever needs to take into account the shipping costs which they would pay. If I have a trio of 2 year old birds,value them at $125 each,,a shipping box costs $30,,and the shipping on that large of a box would easily be close to $100,the entire value of my items would be $505.00
I'd be kinda crazy to swap for other birds that are just peachicks,or 6 months old unless they were orange shouldered yellow hammers or something very new or a color or pattern I really want.

I got my trio of peach in the fall and it cost me $130 to have them shipped. The birds were 5-6 months old. It cost me $30 for the shipping box and $100 to ship. I asked the PO lady what the exact cost to ship those birds and she said $101 and change so basically it cost $102 to ship plus the cost of the box. Your not shipping 1 day old birds my friend and 2 months ago the weather was not as hot as it is today Most pea eggs in the incubator are not going to hatch til June and the weather will most likely be too hot to ship. I will ship eggs PO to PO when the weather is hot because the eggs don't sit inside a hot truck all day. I did have two 3 year old peas (a bronze hen and a purple spalding) shipped a few months ago at the cost of $180. They were shipped in a huge big box that if I remember right was like $50-60 alone. Shipping birds is not cheap and can also come with a price for those who do not know how to ship. I am sorry but I thought it was an egg swap.

I also thought this was supposed to be an egg swap, so Yoda I guess you're not the only one that is confused. I agree, it's pretty expensive to ship birds, much cheaper to ship eggs, risky yes, but cheaper.

I am all for an egg swap as well but shipping live birds is going to leave things too uneven in costs and value.

My understanding from the beginning is that it was eggs OR chicks, whichever you want to do. So if you want to swap eggs, that would be the option you go for.

Yoda, I don't mean to look like I am ignoring you... my husband had back surgery last Tuesday so I haven't been on the computer much. Recovery for the poor guy is NOT going like it should so that has been keeping me pretty busy. I do need to get more pics of the birds, they actually have trains now.
