FREAKING WASPS - Where are they coming from?!

In the past three days, I've killed three wasps and another was killed by a family member. *All* of them were inside. This (four dead wasps), by the way, is three more wasps than I've killed in the past five or so years. Up until now, wasps and I have been on relatively good terms - they avoid me, I avoid them.

Does anyone know where on Earth these little monstrosities might be coming from? We don't have any apparent holes in our window screens or any other obvious access point. To my knowledge, none of us have seen one of the little beasts get in through an open door we were going through, either.
 
In my house I think they were hiding in the edges of the windows that slide up and down. Those little buggers hide in the darnest holes.
We have killed over 10 in our house.
 
Some years ago, my daughter was stung by a wasp in her bed in the middle of the night. A bit of investigation outside found a bee hole bored under her windowsill. The wasps had built a nest between the house siding and the wallboard of my daughter's room.

We sealed off her room via towels under the door and tape and then waited until evening after the bees had returned to the nest. We then put the bee killer spray right up to the hole and bombed away, then plugged the hole.

We let it air out the next day and permanently sealed the the exterior bee hole. No more problems.
 
I have a yellow jacket nest somewhere in the walls of my house. Been there for at least the 15 years, I've owned it. Can't find them. I've checked the attic and basemant crawls; no luck. Every winter I catch 3-8 in the house during winter.

I saw an episode of "Billy the Exterminator" about wasps, they had made a nest in the wall and were getting thru into the little girl's bedroom, yuck! He had to drill a hole in the wall and shoot in some kind of powder to kill them off.

I only get the ones that make the papery nests under the eaves that are easy to kill with the spray that shoots 20 feet. Last summer I had yellow jackets make a nest inside an exterior wall and I couldn't get them myself, had to have an exterminator take care of them. I've never even seen those types around my house before!
 
I think they hibernate, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I occasionally run into hibernating bugs that wake up because I turned the heat on or heat up a room that is normally cool. I'd check around the areas that emit heat. Or maybe it's just getting to be that time of year in South Carolina.

If "where are they coming from" pertains to their overwhelming presence....it's that time of year. Unfortunately because of the mild Winter we had, the insects will be HORRIBLE! I've already hung our WHY traps (yes, they work!) around the farm because I walked outside yesterday and was bombarded with wasps, hornets, and carpenter bees all at the same time.

Our horses are already wearing fly spray, and my big guy will need his fly sheet out soon, too. He is already getting eaten alive.

Time for more bat houses!
 
The leading theory seems to be that there's a nest in the house. For the life of me, I can't find any entry points for them.

I will find that nest.

I will go to where they live and they breed, and I will DESTROY THEM! (And gamers everywhere let out a collective groan)
 
They're mutant wasps. They grew gills, and at night while you're sleeping, they swim through the sewer system, up your house's plumbing system, and crawl through your sink drains. They only have one desire in this life: To haunt your every waking moment, and then invade your dreams, driving you to the brink of insanity. Once they have reached this goal, they will enslave you and take over all you hold dear. There is no escape.

Unless you sic the rabbit on them.
