What about ash from our COAL stove or would that be not good

The ash "dries out the dirt.. and makes the dust bath a bit less dusty. But not much. When the girls are done for the day, they often go to the dust bath spot. It looks like a smoke screen around them after a minute or 2. The first time I saw it, I thought something was on fire because of the ash floating through the air. When they are done.. they look like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown with the cloud of ash following them around.
