My guys are still little (1-2 weeks) but am getting confused on what should be used for a grow out pen. Can anyone please post pics of their grow out pens? I have 10 chicks (8 regular size, 2 bantams) and am trying to figure out what they can go into after the brooder, but before the coop. HELP! Thank you.

here's what I use, it has hardware cloth on the bottom and the poop goes right through it into a pan. The top has window screen over it.

I don't have any right now but I used that cage for my last hatch and kept 12 in it until they outgrew it. You may want to start building something bigger as they grow so fast as you will find out.

This is what I was thinking of using, it is 6x6x3 (will make the bottom solid, it is covered in 1/2" wire and is on my screen porch). I have 10, 2 of which are bantams. Also what are the dimensions of yours? TY!

Our first grow out pen was the area under our origional nest boxes right inside the coop... We chicken wired it off, giving sight and sound between our grown chickens and the new chicks which made putting them together much smoother of a transition... Sorry no pic, this spring we scrapped that and just build a second coop so we had a place for newcomers

here's a pic of my chicks at 1 day they are in a 10 gallon aquarium

this pic is the same birds at 8 weeks

I don't have any pic of them today but they are quite large.

I was told they should stay indoors until about 8 weeks, so trying to figure out what to put them in in the interim. I thought I could use the cage I posted, but now hearing it isn't big enough?

the cage in your post is plenty big enough. What I would do is put it on its back and add some legs to it and put a pan or paper on the floor under it to collect poo.The dimentions of mine are 2x2x4. get some pine shavings to put in the pan or cut down a cardboard box to collect the poo.

You dont have to keep in house. Ilive in Iowa and have been a very cold spring so far. I put my chicks in a brooder box inside my barn that has a small area enclosed top bottom sides with plywood with heat lamp with little opening for them to go out in the bigger part of brooder that has a wire top and sides with plywood bottom. We have had single digital temps and no problems with the chicks. Chickens cause lots of dust in house along with they can be smelly. Main thing is to keep the chicks warm enough and enough room as they grow older.
