Yes. Supposed to be Sunday. Wouldn't that be ironic... or typical. Death by kestrel on the last day here. I will put them in a ground cage. They will not be happy but alive. Hubs picked up the quail carcass, not much had been eaten, so it will still be hungry. Maybe it will eat rats!

yes hopefully it will think rats are tastier and easier to catch.

Bantam coop run has roofing on it, but they are usually out in the yard all day. Young seramas living in the garage are out all day. Not tomorrow! Laying hens have their own yard... over 60 sq ft... no cover.

Hubs found a kestrel chewing on a wild quail out in the yard this evening!  The quail are about the same size as my Serama!  Guess they will be staying locked up for awhile.

do you have netting or anything over the top of your run ??   I don't

my youngest chicks were all practicing takeoffs or busy flapping their wings and trying to take off LOTS of crashes and squawks of dismay

I was thinking the rats are usually out at night, so we need an owl. But actually, I haven't seen a rat for a week now... We caught some youngsters. Not sure about adults...

I have to go out and lock up. Hope all my mini chickens are still okay! I've been finding them in the coop during the day, so they must have been hiding from the kestrel. Don't know why the jays are letting it hang around. Stupid jays eat my eggs and now are slacking on hawk duty! This is bad!!!
