All birds have ecoli bacteria as well as cocci protozoa and it's when they get out of control in the birds system is when there's a problem, both are passed in feces. Feces contaminated waterers/feeders will pass either or both to other birds. Keeping waterers/feeders clean and feces free as well as regular bedding change-outs are imperative with chicks/chickens.
I still suspect you were dealing with cocci as evidenced by your response in your post #24 in this thread. Certain types of cocci are quick killers, and that's what you were dealing with, most likely in conjunction with ecoli bacterial infection. Ecoli from my experience with it in chickens, is a slow killer. Anyway, a sulfa drug such as sulfadimethoxine most likely wouldve prevented the deaths of your chicks.

I need help quickly I have a young rooster six weeks old. He was setting on the bottom of the coop lifeless feet curled up, but his eyes are still open he won't perch on anything he won't eat and can barely hold his head up. What can I do. Can I force-feeding electrolytes or something

Could he have been poisoned by eating any decayed fish, animals, or vegetation that could have caused botulism, or eaten poison, or lead paint flakes from an old barn? Has he been outside of the coop and run? Have any of the others harmed him or could he have injured his head? Try to syringe him some electrolytes 1/4 ml at a time and let him swallow, but only do this if he is alert enough not to choke. Try some of the electrolytes on his feed to moisten them. He sounds like he has some neurological symptoms, maybe from poison, injury, head injury, or a disease such as Mareks.
