Chicken coop interior and exterior watering system

Great video. Thanks for sharing it.

I want to do something like this but I don't know if that heater would keep everything thawed here, have you had problems with the nipples themselves freezing up? I think that would be the weakest point. I would seal the cord hole somehow so an acrobatic chicken didn't get up there and crap in it and to keep dust out as well as over filling and spilling out there

It got very cold this winter, we were below freezing for months with a few occasions of 10 degree days. The system never stopped working. Although a few times the nipples would drip and create a little frozen stalagmite on the bottom of the coop.

Ya, we wear shorts in that kind of weather, lol. We had more days under 20 below zero than I can ever remember and many nights 25 to 35 below zero, I think the heater could keep the "tank" portion thawed but I don't know if it would keep the nipples from freezing in that kind of cold.

I think it would be fine if you just used additional pail heaters or used heat tape where you can place it in keep positions. Sounds like you may have to insulate your coop.

No I don't have to insulate my coop, its pretty much pointless when you have good ventilation anyways. I have a heater for the water now that you set your galvanized waterer on but it would be nice to have the nipple setup for cleanliness reasons as well as being able to hold enough water to not need to go out there daily.

I still think the heat tape option would work.
