I was told these were Araucanas, but I don't think that's correct.

Before you blame the shopkeeper, you should know that the hatcheries commonly call these "Araucana", " Ameraucana ", and various misspellings of each. That is what he ordered, why should he expect them to be something else? The easter egger term is to differentiate them from either breed because they don't meet breed standard. Truly, it's a rare hatchery bred chicken that is a showable example of any breed.
