Reeves Pheasants

They hatch fine and within days they are all dead. The parents show no sign of illness,it just the chicks. He gives the others vitamins and electrolytes,I don't know how often, but the reeves didn't respond until he gave them duramycin. It is not a full dose, just a few sprinkles, and he said everyday on the reeves.

Wow that is weird. I can say from experience that reeves chicks are pretty stupid and if you don't make sure they are eating and drinking they don't figure it out. I dip their beaks into the water a couple of times a day and have little plates that I sprinkle food on with them. I also always try to hatch at least a blk ringneck to place in their with them to help guide them along it's like dumb and dumber leading the blind really. I will also ask another friend that has help guide me along with any questions and see if he has any ideas and let you know what he says.
Has he hatched any eggs from anyone else or just his? If it is only his have him try another stock to get some eggs from. I had a red golden that every time I would hatch her eggs the chicks would also die and I finally called a vet in Lv that I used to work for and had him do an autopsy on the birds and he said they showed an enlarged heart which made the lungs not develop properly so it may be the parents even tho they aren't showing signs of being sick.
Also what type of food does he give them because I know on my chicks I raise the protein they are getting for the first 2 weeks. I'm sure he has hatched before but what type of brooder does he use could they be getting a breeze from anywhere? For the first week I keep all my chicks in a cabinet I made into a brooder that doesn't allow any breeze unless I open the top drawer area and the 2 vents I made ( I know sounds weird but it actually turned out really nice) I can send pix if interested. Well anyway I hope this helped and I will get back to you.

He has been raising pheasants as long as I have. All other breeds do fine.Whatever hatches in the bator are brood together so there are plenty of others to show them how to eat.I've already bought 20 red goldens.16 yellow goldens from him this season. The hatching has been very good for him for years except when it comes to the reeves. He has changed males over the years and has added a few new hens so there is different blood.
This year up this way people are having troubles with Amherst being fertile.I haven't gotten any Amherst from him and he has a nice F4 male that was very fertile last year.Hopefully he will get some Amherst before the season is over.

Ok I will ask him his input. Why are you guys having a problems with the Ams? We have had weird weather and all of birds laying schedules have been so off or started late and only layed for a short time but no problems with fertility.
Also if you know of anyone that is looking for a breeding trio of yellows give them my name they are still laying eggs and a pair of Blue Eared.

Hey Tony
I spoke with the guy I told you about and asked him some questions he gave me some helpful info but to much to type can you call me and I will give you the info or I can im you if you rather.
