New Chicks are Early

I was only gonna put a couple inches down to start. Will be easy to rake and clean. When needed i"ll add more on top of it. When it gets deep enough, should be able to till it up to keep the smell down. Should be fine on top of concrete. Again, I have no experience. Just been reading a lot.

I'm researching it. It's hard to decide because everyone has a different take on every option...lol. I've got a little time to find it; I can't pour the slab until the ground dries up. In the last couple days, we've got over 7" of rain. If I use sand, I may use the quikrete sand since it's supposed to be river sand. I don't mind the idea of calling a cement business, but using sand from a bulk supplier increases the risk of getting sand fleas with the delivery.

I hear ya. You have to decide whats right for you and just go with it. Thats what i did. I've had critters before inside with pine shavings and didnt take long to stink to high heaven. Just cleaned my brooder with a collender made out of wire. All the old feed and poop gone and saved all the sand. Used a kitty litter scoop to begin with, but didnt get everything. The collender worked great and the smell is gone. Sure I will have to change the sand before long, but for now there is no need. From what i"ve read, there is no wrong way. just personal preference.
