Broke Eggs While Candling

Butterfingers happen. Fact of life. I did it with a Day 18 setting it into lockdown. Shell didn't crack (that I can see), but I don't think I did the chick inside any favors.

Melissa, I have done this twice. One went splat and I killed a rare color chick that was halfway done. I felt like a complete idiot. Then I was prepping for lockdown on a different hatch and dropped a Day 18 happy egg about 4" and cracked it close to the air cell, but no membranes broke. I fixed the cracks with melted food grade paraffin, and it hatched fine. Another lister said I could probably have done nothing and an egg that far along would've been fine.

Curious about your incubator, that you don't like to use its turner. What make and model is it? I use a Brinsea Mini Advance and love it. With local hatching eggs, I had two 100% hatches.

I do have a turner, I was candling when I dropped the egg on top of the other. My incubator is a Farm Innovations model 4200. Seems to be doing pretty good, just have to keep my eye on temp. and humidity. Temperature guage on the incubator is inaccurate, but other than that all seems fine. Now if I can just keep my hands from fumbling so much! Good thing I don't play football...LOL
