After reading a bit around here about how you all do it, I've starting letting my flock out of the run a few hours a day for some supervised free range time. It's been awesome to see how they behave out of their usual environment and to get them some more exercise, and really funny that one of our dogs and the cat has really taken to them (just watching/gaurding)! I have noticed though that my Pekins will put just about anything they come across in their mouths (or bills rather!) and I'm curious about what they are actually eating?

Because it's still pretty hot here, they spend a lot of time foraging under an oak tree. I've seen them try to eat small acorns, but I think they mostly get spit out. However I am pretty sure they're eating the oak leaves, is this okay? We also have mistletoe growing in our oaks here, and they appear to be eating those leaves as well, although there are not as many on the ground now as the oak leaves. Also wondering about bits of moss they come across too.

Anyway, just wondering if I should try to keep them away from these areas? There's still a bit of good good grass there, and lots of bugs...so it seems like a good spot for them otherwise! Any thoughts are appreciated!
