I will be moving my pigeons into a new "aviary" soon. They have, so far, been confined to turkey breeder cages. I am hoping to hang the nests as temporary nests off of the side of wire. Does anyone have any type of nests that they prefer to use that can hang off welded wire or in a corner somewhere?

Thank you!

REALLY GETTING TO LATE TO BREED PIGEONS NOW IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO START MOULTING AND THEY NEED A REST TO GET THIS DONE NEVER HAVE HUNG NESTS ON WIRE BEFORE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MIND WAS THE LAYER NEST THAT COME 10 OR 12 TO SECTION I HAD PLANED ON REPLYING TO ONE OF YOUR EARLIER TO ASK IF YOU GO TO SHAWNEE SHOW THER SHOULD BE A GOOD DISPLAY OF WESTS THERE

Thank you for responding! Shawnee is actually where I got this pair. I think they've decided to stop as their last hatch has long been weaned and still no eggs. Also looks as though they have started molting. I had been told that they breed non-stop so I was a little concerned but then realized that they would stop laying during their molting cycle. I do have one of those large, multiple nestboxes that I may have to bring over for use in the pens. I was hoping to not have to use one as I don't have that many birds and don't want to waste space in that area. Unfortunately I can't allow the birds outside so they will work to keep the dust down in my barn.

AFTER THINKINGWHAT ABOUT CUTTING THE TOP HALF OF A FIVE GALLON BUCKET LAY IT ON IT SIDE AND HANG IT WITH A PERCH TO LAND ON ATTACHED TO THE FRONT AFTER READING YOUR WEBSITE IT ANSWERED A QUESTION I HAD THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPNED TO MR BUFORDS LANGSHANS ALWAYS HAD TO STOP AND ADMIRE THEM AT THE STOCK SHOW IN FT WORTH AND SHAWNEE

Could I make it into two nestboxes with a divider? Since they won't take up an entire 5 gallon bucket? Divide one "half" of the bucket into two and then affix it to the fencing?

Thank you! Forrest, to me, always had the best birds. I just hate that he had to beat me over the head with them for about 10 years before I decided to take the plunge into the Langshans! LOL!

Plastic chicken nest boxes are made to hang onwood or wire. my birds don't start getting serious about all breeding until now/it gets cold, and are usually in some stage of moult at time. ikeep mostly performance pigeons though, and jacobins had were ones that hadn't all started till dec to jan. they all slow down to stop once gets hot though. i flew my jacs Chinese owls, and figs, so maybe free flying/exercising and getting fresh air and tidbits plays role too (mine all eat bugs n greens n fruit/berries etc, even though supposed to only eat seeds).

Looks like they're starting up again. Both look to be completely molted and new feathers are in. The male was calling the female back to the nest so should start up again soon.

Mine were still hatching eggs in the 110 degree temps we had this year. Maybe mine are just really..um..prolific?

wests are one of those breeds that have not been affected by breeders using birds that are not inbred as to not been reduced to just afew clutches a year
