November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I did an early candle today when I got home as I was worried about my second batch not showing any signs of development yet. Fortunately I found dark spots and small veins in 11/12 of them this time. They seem to be a day behind on development, but I am happy with their progress so far. First batch is 7/9, second is 11/12. By this time with the old incubator the first dozen were already dead. Yay for progress!
Sounds like a great start!

About the legbars - I just started getting into them too - it turns out that the original imports weren't the proper color and aren't real creams, so there's talk of adding another color variety to the proposed standard to allow for the more colorful ones. I believe right now they're leaning toward calling it Crele.

In other news my eggs shipped and are on their way, woo! I should be putting them in Friday, making the hatch date the 14th.

My name is HugHess and I am a certifiable Hatch-a-holic...
I fell off the wagon again today when my 'Sponsor' , aka enabler, supplied me with these...

1000

Why can't I ever find a 'Step' program!?! How many steps will I need to fulfill to achieve adequate recovery? Because what I am doing, obviously, is getting me nowhere (except Chick Heaven). I love my sponser and can't let her go!
HELP me, please!

:p

Thanks for the response. My legbars all look different, but honestly I know nothing about them. I tried to find a "breed standard" or something similar and didn't have any luck. I have one hen that is dark brownish gray, others that are light gray, and some that are different colors of brown/gray and have a lot of barring. One has yellow legs and so does the rooster. The others have white or willow legs. At least I'm just looking for pets and egg producers so meeting a standard isn't too important to me.

What is happening with the breed standard? I have no idea where my legbars came from. The did not come directly from Greenfire is all I know. They seem pretty standard for Legbars though with a small crest and laying very light blue eggs that are just under jumbo size.
There is no final standard yet. However, there is a draft SOP that has been prepared. As per my reading of the draft, it will exclude most of the Legbars whose hackle does not look very cream. For example, here is a picture of my Legbar, it will be excluded because it looks too much gold. as opposed to cream. A committee has been formed to write a standard for the ones that will be excluded and what to call them.
