I have done 5 hatches from my own chickens eggs or eggs I have driven to pick up. But this hatch I have eggs that have been shipped a great distance, I did pay (a small fortune) to have them overnight mailed. They arrived safe. Started with 9 , 6 made ot to lock down. I did have a strange temp drop of almost 20 degrees when I took the eggs out of the turner to candle the last time and set for lock down. Took about 2 hrs get back to original temp. Today is day 22 one hatched great pipping this am external pip by 3pm and zipped & out in just 1 hr. The other egg that peeped this am and external pip around 2 pm still only has a small hole & peeps on and off. Should I be concerned , add more water/increase humidity? The membrane is dry at the shell edge but moist around the chicks beak. Rocking yesterday from one of the other eggs and nothing from the other 3. Are they dead? Or just taking longer than fresh non shipped eggs?
Thankyou for any insight

The egg nexted to the baby is the one with the small pip hole and no progress other than peeping and some beak movement since 2pm

Shipped eggs are very difficult to hatch! If you end up with 2 chicks you will be lucky! If the chick who peeped doesn't make progress by the am go and break away some of the egg shell and see if the membrane has absorbed the blood or not.

Best of luck!

Let us know if he makes it!

I have just read the post on hatching assistance will most likely 're read it a few more times and assist this one when I remove the hatched one to the brooder (early am). Will post any progress

I just finished a assist on my first egg from a mailed hatch...took 27 hours. The other eggs I have left are doing nothing. Just keep reading the assisted delivery thread. I also posted pics and had some nice members help me out along the way.

Now, I am just waiting again...hoping not to have an only chicken...from 17...7 in lockdown.

Good luck. keep us posted.

So sorry to hear you too are having troubles, wow 10 didn't make it to lock down I guess I was lucky on that. Hoping I don't also only end up with 1 chick. Did you run into snags assisting that were not in the assistance post? I am trying to have everything I may possibly need ready before hand as I am the only one home this weekend :( no assistant
Good luck with your hatch

10pm I did my 15 min check and we had a huge zip, now he/ she is out but has some yolk sack? Still outside and attached dragging about. Should I go in & remove it now or wait til dry and move to brooder in am?
Possibly has some rocking & rolling on another egg

I just finished my hatch last night. (It was my second time attempting a hatch.) I had 16 eggs go into lockdown and 13 of them hatched healthy babies. My average time between pip and zip is anywhere between 16-20 hours!! If by 20 hours there is absolutely no progress then and only then will I SLIGHTLY open the pip area to see if there is a critical reason why there has been no progress. Even with my malpositioned pipper I waited almost 20 hours before interfering. If there is a critical reason for the stalling (shrink wrapped, sever malposition) then I will commence to 'help'. A few hours between pip and zip is nothing. Frustrating, yes, but most pippers in my experience and in my reading, take forever between the two stages. I had to assist two chicks, one for it's sever malposition and one for being shrink wrapped. It was a hard decision to decide whether to assist or not. Good luck with yours!
