Tonight we heard a heck of a fight going on out at the hen house. My wife and son and I went out to see what was going on. When we got out there most of the hens were up on the roost, and there was 4 hens laid about, bloody and battered on the floor. I knew it wasn't a raccoon, not enough blood.
As we searched all around the pen it looked clear, and couldn't see foot prints in the snow. The hens wouldn't quite down and became louder. Upon checking the hen house again, suddenly this little black thing scurried out of the straw and headed for the exit. It was a mink.
I have set "humane" traps baiting with caned tuna. We have to use humane traps because we have barn cats we would rather not see snagged.
Anyone else have trouble with minks in Ohio? This is the first one we have ever seen. Should I just continue to leave traps in place?
Thanks for any advice.
