HELP please. 12 day chick {sneezing runt??}

Hi folks.
Sorry that I let so much time lapse, I've seriously been dealing with every farm fire one could think of... On that note, this morning, our littlest baby girl passed away. It's utterly heartbreaking because I really tried to do everything I could think of. Might I add, out of every chicken book I have not a single one addresses a "runt" situation or what you should/could do. So I would like to thank you all for helping me try to keep our little girl alive.

And then there was nine.

I owe a debt of gratitude to all of you, thank you.

Kristen

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. :hugs

In my three years of chicken keeping, I have dealt with many handicapped chicks. My experience has been that most chicks born sick do die, despite our most desperate efforts to give them a chance at a normal life. I am not sure what caused your young chick to sneeze, I have had two chicks before who had crackling sounds when they breathed, you could even feel their chest rattle if you held them. Both of them did not make it.
I suppose "survival of the fittest" rings true to chicken keeping.

I know it's hard when they pass, somehow these little creatures have a way of pulling at our heart strings. They sure are special.

If you don't mind me asking, did you hatch this chick yourself, or did you recieve her from a hatchery?

Best of luck to you in the future. Sometimes when it rains it pours, but it can't rain forever.
Hang in there. :hugs

Thanks for letting us know the outcome because, well, we care. We were rooting for the little tyke, but the sneezing issue was a big strike against it. There may have been something malformed in its respiratory system. Nonetheless, it's very sad when you lose a little one.

Thank you so much for sticking by me through this. I didn't realize how obsessed I would become ! Holy cow, I get up in the middle of the night to check on them... I change their water 3 and four times a day... I kinda have a craw..... I want to move the 30 day old babies out into the stable. It's totally enclosed and I could still use a heat lamp in there but they aren't fully feathered (Yup, I've been doing my reading.) But I'm wondering if I do put them outside, even with a heat lamp, would they be ok? Am I just being all broody about it?
