I have 8 Indian Runner Ducks 4 males 4 females. My one female has been sitting on a nest for 9 days now and just a few days ago one of the other females started sitting.I don't know if its because they've been in more this winter due to nasty weather or what because they've never shown even the slightest interest in sitting.I'm planning on just raising the ducklings myself until I can rehome if they even hatch the eggs.I'm just curious if anyone else had experience with broody Indian Runners just so I know what to expect.Any advice?

I've been wanting runner ducks for awhile so I've been doing a lot of research and knowing that they're known to produce eggs they don't brood as much making it pretty rare. Just make sure to watch the weight of those females. If you have a successful hatch maybe you should get an incubator to hatch the eggs. A runner duck egg normally goes for 28 days.

We have three or four that go broody. Sechs is guaranteed to go broody each year. Fünf and Elf sometimes.

Elf behind Sechs.

I let them sit on dud eggs. If I ever want to hatch some eggs, I want to know I have someone who can brood them.

Sechs sits it out minimum 30 days, sometimes longer, getting up once or twice a day to poop, eat, swim, drink, and then back on the nest.

I have an incubator. Its set up for my gecko eggs because I never planned on hatching out duck eggs since a friend of mine raises Indian Runners and I always buy my ducklings from her.I was just going to take the eggs from them, but I figure if they are going to sit on them then I'll let them.I'm really hoping they do hatch because I was planning on getting a few more ducklings this year.I'm not real concerned about their weight yet if anything they both could stand to lose a little weight. Thanks for all the advice.

Well the one duck decided being a mother wasn't for her and abandoned her nest. The other is still sitting and this is the weekend is when they are due to hatch.I was able to candle them today and I can't see through the shell so I'm not sure if I'm going to get ducklings or not.
