Hi everyone- I'm new to the board and I've been googling my brain out but I can't find much info on this. I thought my best bet would be to get info from some people with experience. Our guineas started laying a few weeks ago and the first eggs were pretty pathetic. They've gradually started getting bigger and I'm wondering what's a normal size for a good hatching outcome? They started out at about 20 grams and are up to 30 now. We are looking forward to replenishing the flock a little because of some losses from a local bobcat. In numbers they seem to be more formidable to would-be predators. Thank you everyone :)

Sorry I cant help you with your guineas. But I would like to welcome you to our forum. Hopefully someone with guineas can help you out.

I've read that guinea eggs can weigh as much as 40 grams, but I do not know if that weight relates to a French helmeted guinea fowl egg. I suspect that it might. Standard helmeted guineas lay eggs that are somewhat smaller. If Frenchies lay eggs that are about 40 grams, I'd think standard hens might produce eggs in the 30-35 gram range. I never did weigh my guineas' eggs, so I can't say for sure, but I don't recall any of the eggs being larger in size after more than a few weeks after the hens started laying. Hope that info helps.

Thank you so much! That really helps- I have a couple I found yesterday right away and I'm about to check again now since they all just left their "nest area" so I'm hoping for a couple more. I'll see if these are much bigger!

Thanks! I got two more today so have a total of five now...ill probably collect for a few more days and then get started. I'm excited because they're all so different looking so probably laid by different hens. I really hope my buff is one of them! If it turns out well I'll keep incubating and start selling these babies :D

I took some pics candling today on day 12 and compared them to an egg I collected today. If anyone knows what they're looking at feel free to comment since I'm not really sure and just hoping for the best. I thought it was cool to compare the two though, there's a definite difference.
